Nigerian actress Dayo Amusa has criticised what she called the rising online pressure on entertainers and celebrities over national issues.

She made the comments in a post on her X page. She said many people in the creative industry now face attacks online.

According to her, entertainers are criticised for speaking up. She added that they are also targeted to continue their work during times of crisis.

She wrote: “The bullying many of you subject our colleagues to in the creative industry is crazy… They freely can’t share their opinion; they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive.”

Amusa said filmmakers often borrow money at high interest to fund movie production. She noted that despite these financial pressures, they are still expected to stop work and focus on posting about national tragedies online.

“We go to the bank to take loans to shoot movies with high interest rates, but you want us to suspend our jobs and be posting videos of kidnapping and cursing the government daily while you’re in your own office tweeting and enjoying your environment,” she added.

The actress said she will not give in to online trolls.

She stressed that her brand is not built to please social media mobs.

“The day I decided to start using this app actively, I made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter. I won’t pander to mobs because I didn’t build my brand on them. I have other strings of income; don’t come under my post to act silly, I’ll send you home,” she warned.

Despite her anger, the actress offered prayers for the victims of the recent abduction in Oyo State.

“May God bring succour to the families of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo state. May they return home safely,” she concluded.
