Former member of the defunct group P-Square, Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy, has opened up about his life as a solo artiste.
In a recent interview, he explained why it was not difficult for him to transition from PSquare to a solo artist.
Rudeboy said he carried the load during PSquare era, as he was the writer, singer, and producer. He said those roles made his journey as a solo artist less stressful.
“It was the same me that was doing it in the group, with due respect. I am the producer, I am the writer, I am the singer. Less stress”.
Rudeboy also revealed the pressure he faced following the split, as he cannot buy food from the roadside sellers because people will think he is broke, nor can he repeat clothes.
“I can’t buy food from roadside sellers; they’ll say I’m going broke. I can wear a cloth to an interview and mistakenly wear it again to perform, and they’ll say I’m repeating clothes. If I drive the same car for a month, they say I should change it. Now they said I should change my house; do you know where I live? Ikoyi, Lagos.
Recall that in 2023, PSquare had fallen out again because of the joint funds allegedly 1diverted by their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
In an interview, Paul recounted how Peter got him and their older brother, Jude Okoye, arrested by EFCC in December 2023. Luckily for him, after a thorough investigation conducted by the commission, he was declared innocent of all the allegations levelled against him.
Peter, however, denied Paul’s claims that he had arrested him. He noted that Paul, rather than joining forces with him to reclaim their number-one spot in the music industry, chose to team up with their elder brother, Jude, to marginalise and humiliate him.
Peter went on a tell-all series after Paul’s comment on his “Who Naija help” statement.
In the first part of the tell-all, he accused his twin of always trying to pull him down. He noted how Paul is always throwing shades at him, saying he is done being the nice guy and is ready for aura for aura”.
In his second part, he claimed his twin said they would take 35%, while their brother would take 30%. He questioned why their brother had to manage them, noting that before Jude, they’d had three managers.
In the third part of his tell-all series, Peter alleged that he discovered he was no longer a signatory to Northside Entertainment’s bank account while trying to obtain the company’s statement of account. Peter questioned why his brothers would steal from him if money weren’t important, and called their action a pure betrayal.
Peter released the fifth part of his tell-all series, making fresh allegations of Jude threatening to shoot him during a disagreement over the ownership of a property in the United States after he questioned plans to sell it.
He released the sixth part, disclosing that they served him a letter asking him to stop performing Psquare’s songs and alleging that they bought two mansions behind his back.
In part 7, Mr P accused his brothers of stealing $3.2 million from their Forex account in 2013. He said the betrayal wasn’t the hardest part; the backstabbing was, because of who it came from.
Earlier in the year, Peter shut down any possibility of the famous group ever coming back, making it clear that Psquare was done and dusted. He admonished critics to respect people’s decisions, noting that nothing lasts forever and that change is constant.
