Luke Bryan is setting the record straight about his latest single.
Following the release of “Fish Hunt Golf Drink,” the country singer pushed back against accusations that the track was AI-generated. “We’ve had some negativity out there.
Some trolls kinda saying that I AI’ed it, which is completely false,” Bryan, 49, told NBC4 at the Memorial Pro-Am on Wednesday, June 3.
Bryan said the song had a simple purpose. “That song was designed for one thing — to have fun and tell the world what I love to do and what I strive to do,” he said.
The backlash began when Bryan teased the single on social media in May, prompting a wave of AI-related comments from sceptical users. “Is this AI?” one person wrote, while another quipped, “This is so bad, saying it’s AI is disrespectful to ChatGPT!”
The song was written by seasoned hitmakers Chase McGill and Matt Dragstrem, both of whom addressed the controversy with Rolling Stone last week. McGill defended Bryan, describing him as the “least artificial person I’ve ever met.”
McGill also spoke to his own songwriting philosophy, pushing back against the idea of leaning on AI as a creative tool.
“The only way I’ve actually succeeded in country music, ever, is by sitting in the room with good friends and enjoying making the song up that day,” he said. “I don’t believe that I would feel any fulfilment from saying ‘AI, write me a song about whatever.’ That’s not what I signed up for.”
