Nigerian-born Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha will not be eligible to feature for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even if injuries force head coach Thomas Tuchel to make late alterations to his squad.

Dailyspost reports that the 17-year-old was omitted from England’s 55-man provisional squad submitted to FIFA nearly a month ago, ruling him out of contention for the tournament.

Although Ngumoha was invited to join England’s World Cup camp as one of several training players, FIFA regulations stipulate that any replacement player must come from the original provisional list.

The Liverpool winger was included among a group of promising youngsters assisting preparations for the tournament, alongside players such as Alex Scott, Josh King and Ethan Nwaneri.

Ngumoha recently made headlines after making his senior debut for England national football team in a 1-0 friendly victory over New Zealand national football team on 6 June.

Introduced at half-time, the teenager impressed with a lively display and was named Player of the Match, becoming the fifth-youngest player ever to make his England debut.

Despite his impressive breakthrough, Ngumoha will not be available for selection should England suffer injuries or illnesses before their opening World Cup match against Croatia national football team on 17 June.

He is, however, expected to feature in England’s final warm-up fixture against Costa Rica national football team on 10 June.
