The Oyo State Government, on Monday, demolished a building used as a hideout by a kidnapping syndicate in the Lakoun community along the Ayegun-Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, the State capital.
The property was identified by security agencies as the location where Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons were held captive before they were rescued during a security operation over the weekend.
The demolition followed a security assessment of the site conducted on Sunday by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, and other senior security officials.
Videos and photographs of the demolition circulated on social media, and were posted by a local online news platform, Oyo Affairs, via on X: “The Oyo State Government has demolished kidnappers’ den at Lakoun, Ayegun-Olojuoro Road, Ibadan, where the sister of former Minister Adebayo Adelabu and her children were held captive.”
Another digital news outlet, ‘Oyo Matters’, also shared footage of the exercise, describing it as the demolition of a building allegedly used by kidnappers involved in the recent abduction of members of the Adelabu family.
The development comes days after security operatives rescued the victims during an operation on Saturday that resulted in the death of two suspected members of the kidnapping gang.
Four other suspects arrested in connection with the incident were later paraded at the Oyo State Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Sunday.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down other fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.
