The Kano State Police Command has arrested 345 suspected criminals and recovered 270 dangerous weapons during a three-day security operation conducted across all 44 local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to him, the operation, carried out between June 5 and June 7, 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts to curb thuggery, drug trafficking and other violent crimes across the state.

Bakori said the exercise targeted identified criminal hideouts, black spots and drug distribution centres based on credible intelligence and information from members of the public.

He stated that the suspects arrested included alleged thugs, drug dealers and individuals found in possession of offensive weapons, adding that all were currently under investigation and would be prosecuted if found culpable.

The police commissioner disclosed that 270 dangerous weapons were recovered during the operation, including knives, cutlasses, clubs and other items commonly used in violent attacks.

He also revealed that operatives seized quantities of suspected illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets and a dangerous cocktail popularly known as “Suck and Die.”

“The seizures have significantly reduced the capacity of criminal elements to inflict harm on innocent citizens and threaten public peace,” he said.

Bakori attributed the success of the operation to the sustained implementation of Operation Kukan Kura and the activities of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

He explained that Operation Kukan Kura had strengthened visibility policing, improved response to distress calls and denied criminals the opportunity to operate freely in identified flashpoints across the state.

The commissioner added that the VCRU had enhanced the Command’s intelligence gathering and rapid response capabilities, enabling swift intervention against violent crimes and gang-related activities.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustained crime-fighting efforts, Bakori warned criminals to abandon unlawful activities, stressing that Kano State would no longer serve as a safe haven for criminal operations.

He noted that available security data and community feedback indicated a steady decline in crime rates in several parts of the state, attributing the improvement to sustained operational pressure, improved intelligence sharing and professionalism among officers.

Bakori also commended the Kano State Government for its support and praised residents for providing useful information to security agencies, urging continued collaboration to ensure lasting peace and security.
