Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has extended the retirement age of medical and veterinary doctors in the state civil service.

The retirement age, according to the governor, is now increased from 60 to 65 years while the length of service has been extended from 35 to 40 years.

This was revealed by the commissioner for Establishment, Pensions and Training, Hon. Auwal Manu Dogondaji, to journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the government observed that the previous public service retirement policy  of 60 years had led to the premature loss of highly skilled specialists, surgeons, and consultants whom are often at the peak of their clinical experience between the ages of 55 and 65.

“The extension of their years of service is to retain those fit and active professionals so that they can continue to contribute to heathcare delivery, training, and mentorship,” Dogondaji said.
