Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have recovered a trailer-load of fertilizer, which was hijacked by hoodlums, while leaving Rivers State for Kano.
The commissioner of police in the state, Eboka Friday, disclosed this yesterday while parading about 30 suspects, including kidnappers, pirates and armed robbers.
Friday said, “At Elimgbu Division, we made progress there. A young man went to Onne to buy a trailer load of fertilizer. He had 150 bags of fertilizer, which was to be transported to Kano but they were hijacked on the way by men in a Toyota Hilux vehicle. They accused them of carrying illegally refined petroleum products.
“They took the driver and conductor to a bush in Etche and tied them there and took the vehicle somewhere to offload the bags of fertilizer. That night we got the information and started trailing them until we were able to see the trailer.”
He said operatives of the command also arrested suspected pirates, who intercepted a passenger boat along Dutch Island in Onne, Rivers State and kidnapped four passengers, including a 70-year old man.
The commissioner said, “On May 25, 2022, operatives of the C4i Intelligence Unit arrested one Daniel Precious Hezekiah, in connection with the kidnap of four victims at Dutch Island in Onne Rivers State. Victims were also rescued successfully without any ransom paid.”
Eboka warned armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminal elements to relocate from the state as the State Police Command under his watch would not rest on its oars until they were brought to book.
He said, “In summary, the number of arrested suspects is 30, number of recovered rifles is six, the number of recovered ammunition is eight and the number of magazines recovered is one. Also the number of rescued kidnapped victims is seven and the number of trafficked children rescued is one.”
