VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, became the focus of online speculation on Friday, June 12, after unconfirmed reports claimed he had been arrested.
The rumour spread quickly across social media, particularly on Facebook, triggering concern and widespread reactions from users.
The claims surfaced shortly after VDM led a protest against insecurity in Abuja on June 12.
Among those who joined the demonstration was Emeka Ike, who made an emotional appeal to the government to address the country’s security challenges.
Emeka Ike said in part:
“Please don’t let this go too far. It might be your children tomorrow. Our children may not be there today, but somebody’s child is there. Please, let’s stop this killing.”
In the early hours of Saturday, June 13, 2026, prominent activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju dismissed the claim in a post shared on his social media pages.
He wrote:
“VDM not arrested.”
Talks about the protest are still ongoing. The lawyer’s clarification has helped calm concerns among supporters waiting for updates on the activist’s situation.
The development has also sparked mixed reactions online, with many users sharing different views in the comments.
@Gate Nilson commented:
“Were you expecting him to be arrested before?”
@Paman Lucky said:
“There are fake videos and news flying around saying VDM has been arrested. I called some RATELS members in my area for confirmation, and they said it’s not true.”

“he didn’t commit any crime, therefore he can’t be arrested.”
