The Coalition Political Action Committee (COPAC) has called on Senator David Mark led African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to urgently convene a National Candidate Summit to ensure all ADC candidates and campaign structures are aligned with the party’s manifesto, policy agenda, and strategic message ahead of the 2027 general elections.

COPAC noted that as the party presents itself as the principal alternative to the ruling APC, there is urgent need to ensure that the ADC presidential, governorship, federal and state legislative candidates speak with one voice and advance a coherent vision for Nigeria’s future.

The committee stressed that a National Candidate Summit would provide a platform to deepen understanding of the party’s manifesto, strengthen message discipline, harmonise campaign strategies, and ensure that Nigerians are presented with a clear, consistent, and credible alternative government.

This was one of highpoint adopted at the 2026 COPAC Democracy Day Convening, held in Abuja on June 12, 2026. The event featured deliberations on the party’s state, the nation’s condition, and strategic priorities to position the ADC for electoral victory.

According to a communiqué from the COPAC, signed by its
Director of Communications, Olu Onemola, the committee noted that Nigerians deserve to hear a clear and consistent articulation of the ADC’s solutions to the country’s challenges and warned that a divided message weakens a united cause.

It therefore urged the immediate convening of a National Candidate Summit to ensure that all ADC candidates understand the party manifesto, are equipped to communicate its policies effectively, speak from a unified strategic framework, and present Nigerians with a coherent and credible alternative government.

The committee also identified reconciliation within the party as an urgent priority. It called on the ADC leadership to embark on a comprehensive reconciliation process across all levels of the party, stressing that no political party can effectively prosecute a national campaign while burdened by unresolved internal disputes.

COPAC specifically recommended outreach to aggrieved aspirants, candidates, stakeholders, and party leaders across the country, noting that reconciliation must precede mobilisation if the party is to build the unity necessary for victory in 2027.

The Democracy Day Convening was attended by the Presidential Candidate of the ADC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, who was represented by Hon. Nnena Ukeje. Other resolutions adopted by COPAC included a renewed commitment to ensuring that the ADC remains visible, vocal, and active in national discourse; expanding youth participation in party structures and electoral activities; defending democratic freedoms and civil liberties; and mobilising Nigerians around a credible alternative to the APC-led Federal Government.

Speaking at the beginning of the event, the Convener of COPAC, Engineer Aminu Datti Ahmad, said the committee remains committed to strengthening the ADC as a platform for democratic renewal and national transformation.

He noted that the party must approach the 2027 elections with unity, discipline, policy clarity, and a singular focus on victory, adding that Nigerians are looking to the ADC not merely as another opposition party, but as a credible vehicle for change.
The communiqué was adopted on June 12, 2026.
