The Borno State Government has distributed relief materials and cash support to 434 indigenes of Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area who were recently rescued from Boko Haram captivity after spending about three months in the bush.

The intervention was carried out as part of efforts by the state government to support victims of insurgency and ease their reintegration into their communities following their release by security agencies.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who visited the rescued persons in Pulka, directed the immediate distribution of food and non-food items to address their urgent needs and support their recovery process.

Following the governor’s directive, the Director-General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, supervised the distribution exercise on behalf of the state government.

Each of the 434 rescued persons received a bag of rice, a bag of maize grits, a mattress, a wrapper, and a shadda, while children among them were given two pairs of clothing.

In addition to the relief items, 208 heads of households were given ₦50,000 each, in line with Governor Zulum’s earlier pledge of cash support to the victims.

Speaking during the exercise, the SEMA boss said the intervention was part of the government’s emergency response to reduce hardship and help the victims recover from the trauma of captivity.

“I am here at the instance of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who was here some few days ago, and to deliver the items he directed that should be given to you as emergency relief,” he said.

The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention and psychosocial support in a government facility, while plans are underway for their full reintegration into their respective communities after rehabilitation.

Officials said the exercise was conducted alongside the Chairman of Gwoza Local Government Area, representatives of the Ngoshe community, and other stakeholders.
