At least five youths were reportedly killed on Tuesday afternoon after gunmen stormed a mining site in Gero Village, Gyel District of Jos South local government area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 3pm, hours after another reported attack around the premises of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, where three security operatives lost their lives.

Gero village is located about five kilometres from the NIPSS community.

A resident, Ritiji Dalyop, who spoke with our correspondent, said the victims were engaged in mining activities when the attackers invaded the site and opened fire on them.

According to him, all five victims were shot dead by the gunmen.

The killings were also confirmed in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong.
