The 2026 FIFA World Cup has already equalled the total number of red cards recorded at the 2022 tournament despite less than half of the matches having been played.

Four players have been sent off after 26 games at the ongoing tournament, matching the four red cards issued across all 64 matches at the World Cup in Qatar four years ago.

The figures show that dismissals have come at a much faster rate in the current edition, with many more games still to be played.

With the competition still in its early stages, the 2026 World Cup is on course to surpass the red card tally recorded at the previous tournament.

The statistics have made discipline one of the early talking points of the competition.
