The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 10 new postgraduate programmes for the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

The approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC team, which assessed the academy’s facilities, academic resources and faculty capacity before granting approval for the programmes.

Spokesman of the academy, DSP Umar Isah, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the development marked a major milestone in strengthening advanced security and professional education in Nigeria.

According to him, the approved programmes would be offered on a full-time basis, covering disciplines in security studies, law, sciences and management.

The newly approved courses include Master’s in Crime Management, Prevention and Control, Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Management, Prevention and Control, Postgraduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies, and Postgraduate Diploma in Police Studies.

Others are Master’s in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Management Studies, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Law, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Biochemistry, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Financial Economics, as well as Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s in Forensic DNA.

Isah said the approval would enable the Academy to expand its academic reach beyond police officers, adding that personnel from other security and intelligence agencies as well as members of the public would be eligible to apply.

“The Nigeria Police Academy has remained committed to refining the skills and knowledge of senior police officers. With this approval, the Academy is opening its doors wider to provide advanced education opportunities for interested Nigerians,” he stated.

The police spokesman added that details on admission requirements, application deadlines and registration procedures would be released to the public soon.
