King’s College London, through the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education, has opened applications for a fully funded Foundation Certificate in Applied Health for Nigerian students seeking a pathway into higher education.

This was announced in a statement issued at the weekend by the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education at King’s College London.

According to the Centre, the one-year programme is designed to widen access to university education and health-related careers for talented young Nigerians who have completed secondary school but have not yet secured admission into higher institutions.

It stated that successful applicants will receive full scholarships covering tuition fees and will study online for one year.

The programme, according to the statement, is scheduled to commence on 14 September 2026, while applications close on 25 June 2026.

The Foundation Certificate will be delivered entirely online and has been designed for mobile devices with low data consumption, making it accessible to students across Nigeria regardless of location. The programme is open to Nigerian students with WAEC or NECO grades of C6 and above in relevant subjects.

The statement noted, “For many Nigerian students with WAEC or NECO grades of C6 or above, the gap between secondary school and university is one of cost and opportunity rather than ability.

“The Foundation Certificate in Applied Health has been built to close that gap, combining academically rigorous teaching from King’s College London with the flexibility of mobile, low‑data online study so that geography, finances or family circumstances need not stand in the way of a young person’s ambitions.”

According to the statement, participants will study eight core modules, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Data Analysis, English for Scientific and Academic Purposes, Applied Critical Thinking, and Applied Health Sciences.

At the end of the programme, students will undertake a capstone project to address a real health challenge in their communities.

The Centre further said applicants experiencing financial hardship, displacement or significant caregiving responsibilities are particularly encouraged to apply, noting that selection will be based on academic potential and evidence of community engagement.

In addition to academic training, participants will also receive support in digital skills, employability and entrepreneurship to enhance their future educational and career prospects.
