Troops of the Joint Task Force North West “Operation Fansan Yamma” have rescued kidnapped victims, including a one-year-old baby, foiled terrorist attacks and arrested several suspects during sustained operations in Kaduna and Zamfara States.

At the same time, three soldiers were killed during the counter-offensives.

The intelligence-driven operations by Sector 1 and Sector 2 troops were confirmed in a statement by the media information officer for the Joint Task Force, Lt-Col. Aliyu Danja. He said the operations demonstrated the military’s commitment to protecting the people and denying criminal elements freedom of action.

Danja said, “On 18th June, 2026, Sector 1 troops responded to a distress call about armed bandits in the Kerawa forest area of Igabi local government area, Kaduna State. The troops quickly combed the area and rescued three individuals: 38-year-old Mrs Bilkisu Hayatu, 30-year-old Mrs Habibah Sadisu and a one-year-old child, Abdulmutallib Sadisu, who the fleeing criminals had abandoned.

“The victims, who were kidnapped on 17 May 2026, from Kajenjere Tami Village, were taken to a healthcare clinic for medical attention.

In Zamfara State, Sector 2 troops and other security agencies foiled a planned terrorist attack on Gamdanda Village in Gummi Local Government Area early on 20 June 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, troops ambushed the approaching terrorists outside the community, forcing them to flee under heavy firepower. Security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, eight motorcycles, and food items from the scene.

Additionally, Sector 2 troops collaborated with the Defence Intelligence Agency to conduct a covert operation in Zamfara State, arresting four suspected violent extremists and informants. Another suspected terrorist, identified as Muhammad Mamman, was also apprehended due to conflicting claims about his identity, bringing the total number of arrests to five suspects who are currently undergoing investigation.

Meanwhile, troops in Maru Local Government Area, reinforced by the 1 Brigade, successfully repelled a separate terrorist attack. Heavy casualties were inflicted on the terrorists, as indicated by blood trails along their withdrawal route, though three gallant soldiers regrettably paid the supreme sacrifice during the encounter.

Furthermore, aggressive fighting patrols in Bakura Local Government Area forced motorcycle-riding terrorists to abandon their mission toward Tudun Barade and Badamma villages. The Theatre Commander commended the bravery and professionalism of the personnel while honouring the fallen heroes, assuring residents that sustained offensive operations will restore lasting peace to the region.
