The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing what it described as the administration’s commitment to economic reforms, infrastructure development and national stability.

The council said its decision was informed by an assessment of the Tinubu administration’s performance since assuming office in May 2023, arguing that the policies being implemented, though difficult, were beginning to yield positive results for the country.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan yesterday, the secretary-general of YCE, Chief Dipo Oyewole, said the council had reviewed developments in the country and concluded that continuity in leadership would be in Nigeria’s best interest.

According to him, President Tinubu inherited enormous economic and security challenges but had demonstrated courage and determination in addressing them through far-reaching reforms.

Oyewole noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy, exchange rate reforms, and efforts to attract investment were difficult decisions that required time to yield the desired outcomes, adding that the administration should be allowed to consolidate on its programmes.

The YCE secretary-general maintained that, despite the initial hardships associated with some reforms, there were signs that the economy was gradually stabilising.

He also lauded the federal government’s interventions in infrastructure, education, agriculture and social investment programmes, saying such initiatives were laying the foundation for sustainable development.

The Yoruba elders’ scribe urged Nigerians to support the President’s re-election bid in 2027 to ensure continuity of policies and programmes aimed at repositioning the country.

Oyewole stressed that the endorsement was not based on ethnic considerations but on what the YCE described as a realistic appraisal of the administration’s performance and prospects.

He added that the YCE remained committed to promoting national unity, good governance and the welfare of all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliations.

The Council expressed optimism that, with sustained support and policy consistency, the country will overcome its current challenges and achieve greater economic growth and political stability.
