Sixty-three of the 69 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners appointed by President Bola Tinubu have secured formal approval from their host countries, with only six still awaiting clearance.

The approval, known in diplomatic terms as agrément, is the consent granted by a receiving country to accept a nominated diplomat as an official representative.

The latest batch of envoys to receive approval from their host nations were formally presented with their letters of credence by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, on Monday, June 22, 2026.

The newly cleared diplomats include ambassadors and high commissioners-designate to Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Egypt.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the ministry described the development as a significant step in completing the diplomatic posting process for Nigeria’s newly appointed envoys.

The ministry expressed optimism that the remaining six ambassadors-designate awaiting agrément would soon receive approval from their respective host countries.

Although the ministry did not disclose the countries yet to grant approval, it confirmed that several of the cleared envoys, including those posted to India and South Africa, have already reported to their duty stations and commenced diplomatic assignments.

The statement noted that the progress reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and engagement across the world.
