Ghana produced a disciplined defensive display to hold England to a goalless draw in their FIFA World Cup Group L encounter, frustrating the Three Lions and boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

England entered the match seeking a second consecutive victory after their opening win over Croatia, but Gareth Southgate’s side found it difficult to break down a well-organised Ghanaian defence that stood firm throughout the contest.

The Three Lions enjoyed the better share of possession and territorial advantage, yet clear-cut chances were at a premium as Ghana remained compact and resolute. England midfielder Declan Rice became the first player booked in the match in the 41st minute as tensions began to rise before the interval.

With neither side able to find a breakthrough in a cagey first half, the teams went into the dressing room level at 0-0.

England attempted to increase the tempo after the restart, but Ghana continued to frustrate them. The Black Stars’ determination was exemplified by striker Inaki Williams, who received a yellow card on the hour mark while battling tirelessly from the front.

Despite late pressure from England, Ghana’s defence held firm to secure a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites. The result leaves Group L finely poised heading into the final round of fixtures.

For England, the draw represents a missed opportunity to seal qualification early, while Ghana will take confidence from a hard-earned clean sheet against a side packed with attacking talent.

As the final whistle sounded, it was Ghana celebrating a point that could prove crucial in the race for a place in the World Cup knockout rounds.
