The senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District of Anambra State and minority Senate leader, Dr Tony Nwoye, has chargedĀ  Catholic women to participate actively in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Addressing members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) in New Heaven Zone, Ogbaru local government area at St. Lwanga Parish, Okpoko,Ā  on Monday, Nwoye stated that statistics showed that there were over 10,000 registered voters in the area during the 2023 general election, but, less than 4,000 voted.

Accompanied by the member representing Ogbaru federal constituency, Hon. Afam Ogene at the event, Nwoye who distributed 25,000 clothes to the CMO members in the zone and Onitsha Region, urged those among them who had not obtained their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to use the opportunity of the remaining two weeks of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) to obtain their own Voters Cards, and, make sure that they voted in the coming general election.

He told the CWO membersĀ  that members of the political class were responsible for the hardship in the country because they lack compassion for the ordinary citizens.

Senator Nwoye extolled the contributions and sacrifices women were making in nurturing and bringing up their children.

“I have not come today to campaign for votes; I, and, my brother, Hon Afam Ogene have come to thank you people for voting for us about three years ago.

“We did not give you any money to vote for us when you voted for us that time, and, I am sure that you are seeing what we have been doing?”, Nwoye told the women.

He stated that was why he always championed the cause of the down-trodden because he suffered while growing up because of his poor family background saying that he and his twin brother were even hawking in Okpoko because his parents lived in the area then.

He, however, told the women that while his twin brother is currently a reputable legal practitioner, married to a Court of Appeal Justice, God has also made him a great person in many ways , including making him become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Nwoye eulogised the presidential candidate ofĀ  Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and, former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi and told the women that he, and, his colleague, Hon Afam Ogene, along with several like-minds were strongly committed to making sure that Obi was elected president of this country in the coming 2027 general election because they believe in Obi’s vision, capacity and passion to change what he described as bad governance culture in the country.

“I must confess to you, we, the politicians of this country have failed; so many of us are not compassionate at all.

“So, if you are here, and, you don’t have voter’s card make sure you go, and, register, and, obtain your voter’s card.

“I am not telling you that you must vote for me, or, whom you should vote for in the election, what I want to tell you is to get prepared to make sure you voted in the election for someone according to your conscience, not because the person gave you money, or rice.

You should vote whomsoever you believe will provide good governance, not, because the person gave you money”, Nwoye charged the women.

Meanwhile, the women through their leadership eulogised Nwoye and Ogene for their humility and compassion towards humanity, and, good governance.

The women who prayed for both Nwoye and Ogene committed their political aspirations, particularly their ambition in the coming general elections to God.
