A Texas mayor has called for the cancellation of a planned concert by rapper and fashion entrepreneur Kanye West, citing his history of antisemitic comments and controversial public statements.

San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones urged organisers to cancel West’s scheduled July 4 performance at the Alamodome, a city-owned venue. In a post on X, Jones said San Antonio, known as “Military City USA,” should not host an artist with a record of hate speech and antisemitic remarks, particularly during celebrations marking the United States’ 250th anniversary.

“Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union,” she wrote.

The proposed concert has become the latest stop on West’s tour to face criticism due to his past controversies. The rapper has drawn widespread condemnation in recent years over antisemitic comments and other actions that sparked backlash from governments, organisations and event promoters.

Several planned appearances in Europe have also faced obstacles. British authorities reportedly revoked West’s visa, while organisers cancelled scheduled events in Switzerland and Poland, citing concerns.
