The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two persons in connection with the death of a 21-year-old student of Rivers State University, Eno Udosen.

Udosen reportedly died on Tuesday night after a speeding vehicle struck her and slammed her against a fence within the university’s main campus in Port Harcourt.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests, stating that the two suspects were linked to the fatal accident that claimed the life of the student.

According to the police spokesperson, the incident occurred around the Road A axis of the university’s main campus. She added that the victim’s body has been deposited in a mortuary while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident continue.

The tragic incident has sparked calls for justice from the deceased’s family.

A relative of the victim and lecturer at Rivers State University, Moore Mike-Ogburia, alleged that Udosen was returning to the staff quarters on Tuesday night when two drivers, said to be racing each other, collided and fatally struck her.

Mike-Ogburia urged law enforcement authorities to ensure that those responsible for the incident are prosecuted.

He described the drivers as reckless and called for justice for the deceased, insisting that the tragedy could have been prevented if stricter measures had been taken against traffic offenders on campus.

According to him, the university has witnessed similar accidents in the past, and stronger enforcement actions, including the impoundment of offending vehicles and prosecution of violators, could have served as a deterrent.

“The death of Eno could have been avoided if, in previous cases, offending vehicles had been impounded, drivers arrested and prosecuted. Similar accidents occur almost every semester,” he lamented.

The incident has renewed concerns over speeding and reckless driving within the university environment, with students and staff calling for improved traffic control measures and stricter enforcement of road safety regulations on campus.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law.
