Nigerian actress Eyiyemi Afolayan, daughter of Kunle Afolayan, has shared her views on marriage, wealth and polygamy.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, published on Instagram on June 24, the actress said she would rather marry a poor man than a rich one. She explained that wealth can sometimes change a man’s attitude in a relationship.IMG 2612

Eyiyemi said money may lead some men to become disrespectful or unfaithful. She added that she prefers a hardworking man, even if he has limited financial means.

She said:

“I can’t build with a man. Why can’t I build with a man? You know, men; they are ingrates. If I marry a man who doesn’t have money and see money, if I marry him, he will stay with me, not because he loves me, but because he doesn’t have the money to flirt around.”

Eyiyemi Afolayan also said she would not marry a man who relies entirely on her for financial support. According to her, any partner she chooses must have a genuine means of earning a living.

“I was born into wealth. Any man who wants to marry me must be doing something for himself. I can’t be feeding him, but I can support him,” she added.

The Anikulapo actress rejected the idea of polygamy. She said she would never accept being a second or third wife.

“I can’t be a second or third wife for any man. It is not because I am jealous or anything. A polygamous home comes with a lot of troubles.”

Despite her personal views, Eyiyemi Afolayan said she respects her father’s decision to have multiple wives.IMG 2613

She explained that her father is an adult who understands what he wants. According to her, she and her siblings will stand by him regardless of the choice he makes.
