Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai,  Prof. Mohammed Hadi Suleiman, has called for more research on topical issues that pose threats to Nigeria and the world at large.

He stated this yesterday in Lapai at the 29th inaugural lecture series of the  university, on the topic: “Mirroring Pre-Service Science Teacher Education Through Evaluation Lens: Reflections on Quality, Globalisation and Contemporary Relevance” and delivered by Prof. Mohammed Tajordeen Mustapha of the Science Education Department.

Suleiman  called for sustainable research  on relevant fields for problem solving, especially those affecting Nigeria.

He said the research topic of the inaugural  lecturer would  bring to light the fact that researches in areas of specialisation can indeed bring about learning for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The vice chancellor therefore appreciated the diligence and dogged efforts of the university Senate Committee on Seminars and Conferences led by Prof. Ebenezer Oluseun Ogungbe, for their relentless efforts in enhancing results.

In his lecture, Mustapha  advocated for  the need to deeper reforms in pre-service science teacher education programme to enhance the quality of Nigeria science teachers  and to ensure greater curriculum relevance, effectiveness and professionalism.

He posited  that , outdated curriculum content created some knowledge gaps and deficiency in the pre-service science teacher preparation which portends negative  effects for science education.

Professor Tajordeen Mustapha also revealed that with follow up in science training through the implementation of innovative STEM model and the recently developed CCMAS being implemented,  the gaps in pre-service science teacher education is being addressed to suit the 21st century and global demands.
