A United States court has charged a couple with murder, child abuse, and torture following the death of their severely obese seven-year-old son, whom prosecutors claim was fed a strict diet of junk food.

The victim, Casper O’Brien, passed away at a weight of 255 pounds.

Prosecutors stated that his parents, Damien and Jessica O’Brien, fed him the same meal every day, which consisted of a large bag of potato chips, a large order of French fries, apple juice, and carbonated water.

The Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Genesee County, John Potbury, stated that investigations showed no indication that the child was allowed to exercise to manage his weight. He added that the boy suffered from severe bed sores due to being left stationary in bed for long periods.

Medical records revealed that the child weighed 104 pounds in February 2024 but gained over 150 pounds in less than two years before his death. Investigators also noted that the child’s fingernails were left uncut and unkempt.

Beyond the child’s physical state, authorities described the family home in Flint Township as being in deplorable condition.

According to the prosecution, layers of dirt covered the living spaces, and the house featured a broken toilet filled with human waste.

Furthermore, state prosecutors revealed that the deceased child was never enrolled in school. They noted that the boy and his five-year-old sister essentially did not exist in official government records due to total parental isolation.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court on July 2, 2026. Legal representatives for the parents have declined to comment on the charges.23ab1ca44b6341d9bea016f8fed8c498 md 286bf56b76ee44eaa6f16da9e6444e4b md
