The federal government has announced that it has concluded plans to evacuate 271 more Nigerian nationals seeking to return from South Africa, following, the incessant xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and nationals of other African countries in the former Apartheid enclave.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, stressing that the evacuees are expected to arrive Nigeria on Tuesday, June 30.
He said the exercise marks the second batch of evacuations, following the return of 258 Nigerians from South Africa in an earlier operation.
“An Air Peace aircraft will depart Nigeria today, June 29, at 3:00 p.m., and is expected to arrive in South Africa at approximately 9:00 p.m. local time.
“The return flight is scheduled to depart South Africa at 12:00 midnight and is expected to arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning. The expected number of evacuees is 271,” he said.
