A chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Haruna Mohammed Uban Doma, has declared that Nigeria is not ripe for state police.

He said his position was informed by the fact that, “we have the security agencies made up of the Army, Police, Immigration, Civil Defence and other outfits, still things are not going well.”

Doma said what needed to be done was that those sponsoring insecurity should be tried and if found guilty, convicted accordingly.

He insisted that if the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence and others cannot end the current insecurity, how can the states where they will be used to persecute opposition succeed.

Doma said before bringing the idea, a committee should be set up to determine the reasons why the present security agencies have not succeeded. He noted that even in the selection process and other issues relating to the state police, many things would arise if adequate measures were not taken.
