Police in Bauchi State have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged culpable homicide after a 27-year-old man was killed during a violent clash at a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, Kirfi local government area of the State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that trouble started during the ceremony after youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet engaged in a confrontation with youths from Dosi Hamlet.

During the clash, the victim, Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi,  was allegedly attacked with cutlasses by some youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said three suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing.

The suspects were Kano Alhaji Malam, a 18-year-old; Ali Alhaji Malam, a 17-year-old, and Shehu Alhaji Malam a 16-year-old, all from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet.

According to the police spokesperson, the incident was reported to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters by the officer in charge of the Bara Police Outpost after an 80-year-old resident of Dosi Hamlet lodged a complaint over the attack.

“Police operatives immediately visited the scene, where photographs were taken for investigative purposes. The suspects were subsequently traced and arrested in connection with the crime,” the statement said.

SP Habib added that the deceased had since been buried by his family in accordance with Islamic rites.

He said the preliminary investigation had been concluded, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and warned against the use of violence to resolve disputes during social gatherings.

He urged community leaders, youth groups and residents to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence to promote lasting peace and security across Bauchi State.
