The Prince of Wales has revealed that King Charles III is not a football fan, admitting his father “hates football” during an appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce.

The episode, released on Friday, focused largely on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, with Prince William discussing England’s campaign and confirming he would travel to the final if the Three Lions reached the showpiece.

A lifelong supporter of Aston Villa, William was asked whether his passion for football had been inherited from his father.

“Absolutely not,” the Prince of Wales replied. “My father hates football.”

England booked their place in the Round of 16 after a commanding victory over DR Congo, inspired by captain Harry Kane, who scored twice late on to seal the win. They will now face Mexico at the iconic Azteca Stadium on Sunday, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

During the conversation, Travis Kelce asked whether the prince would make the trip across the Atlantic should England reach the World Cup final.

“Definitely,” William replied.

“If we’re in the final… maybe see you both there for the final?” he added.

The interview coincided with the United States’ Independence Day celebrations, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Reflecting on England’s World Cup journey, Kelce asked whether he had ever doubted the team’s chances of progressing.

“There were times… there were times, yeah,” William admitted, before jokingly adding: “But I’d like to think the UK and the US have been together for those 250 years.”

England will take on co-hosts Mexico on Sunday, with Thomas Tuchel’s side aiming to secure a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
