The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has said the Kaduna State Government’s ongoing reconstruction of internal roads was the biggest intervention the institution has received in recent years.
Ahmed said the project was one the university had waited more than 40 years to witness, describing it as unprecedented and beyond expectations.
Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing road reconstruction project within the institution, Ahmed, said the quality of work had exceeded the university’s expectations. “We have waited for 40 years for this,” he said
The vice chancellor said ABU, being Nigeria’s foremost engineering institution, could confidently attest to the project’s quality.
He said the roads were being executed in collaboration with the university’s engineers, ensuring strict adherence to engineering standards.
Ahmed expressed confidence that the roads would serve the institution for decades because of the quality of construction.
He commended Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, for extending the intervention to a federal university without any formal request.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated empathy, commitment to education and a clear understanding of responsible governance.
Ahmed said the intervention reflected the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments in developing educational institutions.
He urged other northern governors to emulate the gesture by supporting ABU, describing it as a shared heritage of Northern Nigeria.
The vice chancellor noted that although some states had offered support previously, the current intervention remained the largest received by the university.
Earlier, the managing director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, said the inspection covered ongoing projects across the state, stating that the governor had initiated about 150 road projects covering approximately 1,345 kilometres across Kaduna State’s 23 local government areas.
