The Benue State Government has inspected all 23 Divisional Agricultural Offices (DAOs) across the state to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of government-supplied fertiliser to farmers for the 2026 farming season.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, conducted the inspection as part of the government’s efforts to monitor the fertiliser distribution process and ensure that the inputs reach intended beneficiaries across the state.
During the exercise, Ashaver commended the Divisional Agricultural Officer (DAO) for Ukum Local Government Area, Andrew Shinkpe, for his dedication, transparency and accountability in the supply of fertiliser to farmers.
He disclosed that about three truckloads of Green Plant fertiliser, as well as Indorama Urea and NPK fertilisers, had already been distributed to farmers in Ukum, while two additional truckloads were being offloaded for further distribution.
According to the commissioner, the timely provision of the high-quality fertilisers is expected to significantly improve crop yields and agricultural productivity during the current farming season.
Ashaver also lauded Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for ensuring the timely supply of assorted quality fertilisers to farmers across the state.
He said the intervention demonstrates the administration’s commitment to agricultural development and would strengthen agribusiness, boost food production and reinforce Benue’s status as Nigeria’s Food Basket.
The commissioner, however, cautioned residents against engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the state’s reputation, particularly through the circulation of fake news and misinformation on social media.
He urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to support government efforts aimed at improving farmers’ welfare, increasing agricultural productivity and enhancing food security across the state.
