Ortom Signs N179.750bn Appropriation Bill Into Law

Benue State governor Samuel Ortom yesterday signed into law the 2023 appropriation bill of N179. 750 billion.

Giving the breakdown of the bill, the governor said the sum of N106.191 billion representing 59.1 percent is for recurrent expenditure while the sum of N73.558 billion representing 40.9 percent of the aggregate expenditure goes to capital expenditure.

The governor while signing the bill acknowledged the complementary role of the state House of Assembly which has brought a lot of success to his administration.

He said, “I want to thank you all for the speedy approval of the budget and its presenting today to be signed into law and other laws like the 2017 law for the prohibition of open grazing and ranches establishment among many others.

“I also want to appreciate members of the 9th Assembly for the synergy and understanding which has brought good governance for the people of the state.”

 Governor Ortom who wished the people of the state a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year was optimistic that the year 2023 will be a year of turnaround, re-focusing, re- engineering, re-awakening and a year of rescue for Benue and the country.

On the issue of the 2023 general election, the governor again urged Benue people to vote according to election not parties.

 Earlier, the speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Titus Uba, who presented the bill to the governor for assent, applauded members of the 9th Assembly for their commitment to make laws for the good governance of the state.

Represented by the deputy speaker Chris Adaji, the speaker pledged more support to the executive arm of government so as to deliver on its mandate to improve the livelihood of citizens.
