Former U.S. President George W. Bush is celebrating his 80th birthday today, July 6, becoming the second former American president to reach the milestone this year.
Bush’s birthday comes just days after the United States marked its 250th anniversary and weeks after he made a rare public appearance alongside fellow former presidents at the opening of the Obama Presidential Centre.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump turned 80 on June 14, while Bill Clinton is set to celebrate the same milestone on August 19. Among the living former presidents, Barack Obama is the youngest at 64, while Joe Biden is the oldest at 83.
Since leaving office in 2009, Bush has largely stayed out of partisan politics, returning to Texas with his wife, Laura Bush. He established the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in 2013, authored several books and has worked on humanitarian initiatives with former presidents from both political parties.
