King Amachree Sports Academy (KASA), Obuama, Rivers State, has claimed its first-ever boys’ title at the 26th Nestlé MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, edging defending champions Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, 56-54 in a thrilling final.

The national championship, which concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, brought together Nigeria’s top secondary school basketball teams that qualified through regional competitions.

KASA sealed a memorable victory after producing a dramatic late comeback to deny the defending champions and end a seven-year quest for the prestigious national title.

In the girls’ competition, Government Secondary School (GSS), Gboko, Benue State, emerged champions with a commanding 68-36 victory in the final.

Founded by Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Amanyanabo of The Source, Elem Kalabari, King Amachree Sports Academy combines academic excellence with elite sports development, providing a platform for young athletes to pursue both education and sporting success.

Riding on the momentum of its historic triumph, the academy has announced a five-year strategic partnership with EEXSport Digital Company Limited aimed at strengthening its academic and sporting programmes.

Speaking after the championship, Dokubo said the academy was determined to build on its success by creating greater opportunities for student-athletes through improved education, talent development and professional support.

Under the partnership, EEXSport Digital Company Limited, led by sports administrator and broadcaster Emeka Enyadike, will provide technical and operational expertise in sports management, academic development, sponsorship, marketing and international partnerships. The academy’s ownership and governance structure will remain unchanged.

The five-year development plan is built around six key pillars: academic excellence, sports development, leadership training, international athlete pathways, community engagement and financial sustainability.

A major feature of the initiative is the proposed International Athlete Pathways Programme, which will connect outstanding student-athletes with overseas training opportunities, educational scholarships and professional development programmes.

The academy believes the partnership will accelerate its ambition of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading institutions for developing well-rounded student-athletes capable of excelling both in the classroom and on the international sporting stage.

KASA’s triumph at the country’s premier secondary schools basketball championship marks a significant milestone in the academy’s history and provides a strong foundation for its long-term vision of producing future national and international stars.
