Nigeria’s tax administration has entered what the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) describes as a new era with the rollout of Rev360, a digital platform that is set to replace TaxProMax and bring virtually every federal tax service under a single, integrated system.
From business registration and tax filing to payments, tax credits, dispute resolution and compliance management, the platform seeks to simplify interactions between taxpayers and the revenue authority while reducing paperwork and improving transparency.
The launch comes as the federal government pushes wider fiscal reforms aimed at improving revenue mobilisation without increasing the burden on compliant taxpayers. The minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Taiwo Oyedele, had described digital tax administration as a critical pillar of a transparent, predictable and business- friendly tax system.
Speaking at the platform’s launch recently, Oyedele, represented by the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Danjuma, said technology-driven platforms such as Rev360 would improve the ease of doing business, strengthen investor confidence, and support the government’s broader economic reform agenda.
Executive chairman of the NRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, explained that Rev360 represents more than another technology project, describing it as a complete transformation of how the agency operates, noting that the platform marks the agency’s transition to Tax Administration 3.0, where automation, real-time data, transparency and taxpayer experience become the foundation of revenue administration. “It is about building a system where taxpayers can interact seamlessly, where compliance is simplified, and where transparency becomes the default,” he stated.
At the heart of Rev360 is the integration of services that were previously spread across multiple processes. Instead of navigating separate systems for registration, filing, payments and taxpayer support, individuals and businesses will now access all services through one digital platform, giving users a complete 360 degree view of their tax affairs.
Executive director, Technology , at the NRS, Iniabasi Akpan, explained that the system replaces fragmented processes with a single integrated ecosystem. According to him, the platform connects all taxpayer touchpoints, improves workflow management and provides real time visibility across departments, enabling faster service delivery and stronger institutional coordination.
Although Rev360 is expected to replace TaxProMax, the migration will be gradual. According to the NRS Frequently Asked Questions, both platforms will operate simultaneously during a transition period to allow taxpayers and their records to migrate seamlessly.
Rather than having existing taxpayers register again on the new platform, profiles, previous returns, payment history, withholding tax credits, outstanding balances, and compliance records will automatically be transferred to it. According to the NRS, new login credentials will be sent to taxpayers via their registered email addresses, streamlining the process.
One of the most significant changes introduced under Rev360 is the automatic generation of Tax Identification Numbers. For companies, Tax IDs will be generated immediately after incorporation with the Corporate Affairs Commission, while individuals will receive their Tax IDs after registration with the National Identity Management Commission.
The service noted that where taxpayers cannot locate their numbers, they can retrieve them online using either their Corporate Affairs Commission registration details or their National Identification Number.
New business registration will now be fully digital with Rev360, eliminating physical visits except in exceptional circumstances. As the new platform enables businesses to file multiple federal taxes, such as VAT, CIT, withholding, amongst others, through one portal, taxpayers simply need to log in to the platform, select the relevant tax type, complete an online form or upload the prescribed Excel template, and submit returns electronically.
Because the filing process is integrated with payment, taxpayers can now settle outstanding liabilities immediately through approved online payment channels, and receipts are generated automatically and remain available for download at any time.
Aside from eliminating physical registration and payment, several compliance services that previously required visits to tax offices have also been digitised. Applications for Tax Clearance Certificates, refund requests, tax statements, changes of tax office and address updates can all be initiated online.
The platform also provides electronic channels for objections to tax assessments, dispute resolution and submission of supporting documents. Audit notifications, desk reviews and tax assessments will equally be delivered through the portal. Taxpayers can also monitor withholding tax credits, including VAT deducted at source, while Rev360-generated credit notes serve as official evidence of tax credits.
Beyond conventional tax filing, Rev360 introduces dedicated modules for industries with specialised tax obligations. For instance, mining companies can now declare mineral production and remit royalties electronically through a Mineral Royalty module, as the system now allows operators to provide licence details, declare production volumes, and automatically calculate royalty obligations before submission.
The petroleum sector is also covered, with operators able to file royalty returns for crude oil, condensates and natural gas through either online forms or Excel templates. The platform generates royalty summaries covering oil, gas and total royalty liabilities before submission.
Shipping companies and airline operators are equally integrated through an Advance Monthly Payment module. According to the User Manual, the system automatically computes two per cent of gross monthly income as the applicable advance tax payment.
Rev360 also includes dedicated modules for Electronic Money Transfer Levy, Stamp Duty, Withheld Stamp Duty and asset disposal, including virtual assets. For stamp duty transactions, taxpayers can submit returns electronically, upload supporting documents, and receive stamped instruments and certificates via email once payment and approval are complete.
Executive director of the Medium and Emerging Taxpayers Group, Bolaji Akintola, said Rev360 was developed in response to changing expectations from businesses and individuals. According to her, taxpayers increasingly expect government services to match the speed, convenience and transparency already available in the private sector
She said the platform simplifies onboarding, filing, payments, compliance management and taxpayer support while providing greater visibility into tax obligations.
While most services have been digitised, physical visits may still be required in exceptional cases of compliance or verification. To ease adoption, the Service had opened access to user manuals, filing templates, webinars, and dedicated help desk support throughout the transition period.
For businesses, the biggest gains are expected to come from reduced paperwork, faster processing, improved access to tax records and a more predictable compliance environment, while for the government, the platform is expected to strengthen voluntary compliance, improve revenue collection and support the country’s ongoing fiscal reforms.
