Jigawa State Executive Council (SEC) has approved the review and implementation of a new minimum pension package, raising it from N12,000 to N20,000 monthly for both state and local government retirees.

The state commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting, which was chaired by  Governor Malam Umar Namadi.

He said the governor signed the implementation of the new pension scale, effective July 1, 2026.

According to the commissioner, the approval was part of the Governor Namadi-led administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of retired public servants in the state.

He said the review was in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the state’s growth and development during their years of active service.

In a related development, the council also approved N2,068,608,000 as additional annual expenditure for the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme.

He explained that the additional funding was approved to ensure the full implementation of the minimum pension and the timely payment of all retirement entitlements.

The commissioner added that this would encourage those in active service to remain committed and productive, knowing their future is secure and protected.

“The council has also approved the award of a contract for the complete solar-powered electrification of Birnin Kudu General Hospital, Ringim General Hospital, Kazaure Specialist Hospital, and Bulangu Cottage Hospital, at a total contract sum of N136,060,609.38 only,” he said.

Hon. Sagir reiterated Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s commitment to protecting the rights, livelihood, dignity, life, and well-being of every citizen of Jigawa State, in line with the APC manifesto, his 12-point agenda, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
