Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has flagged off the distribution of subsidised fertilisers for the 2026 wet season farming campaign, warning distributors against the sale, hoarding, or diversion of the agricultural inputs meant for farmers.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at the Adamawa State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority in Yola, Governor Fintiri said anyone found engaging in the illegal sale, diversion, or hoarding of the subsidised fertilisers would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.

The Governor said the distribution of the fertilisers to the 21 Local Government Areas and recognised farmers’ associations underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.

He noted that Adamawa is blessed with vast expanses of fertile and arable land, stressing that the government procured the fertilisers to support farmers in maximising crop yields, increasing food production, and ensuring adequate food supply within the state and neighbouring communities.

Governor Fintiri expressed confidence in the quality of the fertilisers, stating that they would significantly improve farm output and enable farmers to record bumper harvests during the 2026 farming season.

He, however, cautioned those entrusted with the distribution process to carry out the exercise transparently and responsibly, warning that the government would not tolerate any act of hoarding, diversion, or profiteering by distributors.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Salihu Idris, said the fertiliser distribution programme reflects the Fintiri administration’s sustained investment in agriculture and its determination to address challenges confronting the sector.

According to him, the state government has heavily subsidised the fertilisers to make them affordable for farmers, disclosing that a 50-kilogramme bag of NPK fertiliser would be sold at between ₦21,400 and ₦23,500, far below the prevailing market price.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Suleiman Ahmed Gangkuba, described agriculture as the backbone of economic development and commended Governor Fintiri for the timely intervention aimed at supporting farmers at the peak of the planting season.

On behalf of farmers’ associations, the Chairman of the Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria (MAAN), Adamawa State Chapter, Ibrahim Yusuf, expressed appreciation to the state government for the initiative and assured that beneficiaries would utilise the subsidised fertilisers for their intended purpose to boost food production and enhance agricultural output across the state.

The distribution exercise is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across Adamawa State as part of the government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable agriculture, improve food security, and stimulate rural economic development.
