The commissioner of police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sadiq Idris Abubakar, has banned the sale and use of fireworks and  bangers during the Christmas and new year celebrations in the territory.

The commissioner stated this while felicitating with residents of the FCT.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, DSP Josephine Adeh, said the commissioner noted that the order was part of proactive moves by the police to sustain the relative peace in the FCT and adequately contain crime, particularly ones peculiar to the end of the year and the Christmas and new year festivities.

To this end, the commissioner has deployed both covert and overt security apparatus to ensure that residents of the FCT enjoy the yuletide season in a relatively calm environment.

He further ordered all divisional police officers and heads of police units within the FCT to carry out due enforcement of the ban and ensure that anyone who violates the order is arrested and brought to book.
