‎The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has met with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other party leaders as the party commenced reconciliation efforts following its recent primaries ahead of the 2027 general election.

‎The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, the state capital, reaffirmed Aiyedatiwa as the leader of the APC in Ondo State, while the leaders also pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

‎The gathering resolved to strengthen internal cohesion, promote reconciliation among party members and preserve the unity and progressive ideals of the APC in the state.

‎In his opening remarks, GAC Chairman, Pius Akinyelure, described the meeting as the council’s first since the primaries, saying it showed the commitment of party leaders to resolve differences and safeguard the future of the party.

‎Akinyelure noted that political disagreements were inevitable in a democracy but could be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and sacrifice. He urged party leaders and government officials to work together to ensure the APC records an even better performance for President Tinubu in the 2027 election than it did in the 2023 presidential poll.

‎He also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration and called on party members to avoid division and bitterness in the interest of the APC.

‎Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure said: “The leaders unanimously endorsed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in Ondo State. We reviewed issues affecting the party and are satisfied that the necessary adjustments have been made to strengthen our unity.”

‎Also speaking, former senator representing Ondo North, Ajayi Boroffice, said the leaders agreed to support the governor and ensure all party members recognised him as the APC leader in the state.

‎According to Boroffice, “Governor Aiyedatiwa represents the APC institution in Ondo State. We have also resolved to intensify efforts towards President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and improve on the state’s performance in the last presidential election.”

‎He added that the leaders would engage the APC national leadership to reaffirm their solidarity and communicate the resolutions reached at the meeting.

‎Also speaking, APC South-West Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said more than 30 party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s re-election and resolved that all APC support groups in the state should operate under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.

‎Kekemeke also urged the party’s national leadership to carry all major stakeholders along in decisions affecting Ondo State, saying such inclusiveness would further strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
