President Bola Tinubu has transmitted the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to the Senate, seeking legislative approval to strengthen the administration and governance of public senior secondary education across Nigeria.

The President’s request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary.

In the letter, Tinubu informed lawmakers that the proposed amendment bill was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting of April 30, 2026, and is now before the National Assembly for consideration.

“The purpose of the bill is to strengthen the administration and governance of public senior secondary education in Nigeria,” the President stated.

Tinubu said the proposed legislation is in line with his administration’s commitment to strengthening educational institutions and improving the quality of governance in the education sector.

“In consequence of the above, the desire of this administration to strengthen the educational institutions in the national interest, the National Senior Secondary Education Commission Amendment Bill, 2026, is forwarded for legislative action by the National Assembly,” he said.

The President appealed to the Senate to give the bill accelerated legislative consideration.

“While it is my hope that the Senate will consider the bill and grant it expeditious passage, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards,” the letter read.
