Benue: Police Arrest 23-year-Old Suspect Over Killing Of Professor, Brother

The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Usman of Awe, Nasarawa State, in connection with the killing of a professor of History at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi (MOAUM) formerly Benue State University (BSU), Gabriel Nyityo and his younger brother, John Nyityo.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, it explained that officers attached to the Police D Division, Makurdi, responded to a distress call along the Adaka axis, where they discovered the bodies of the two victims.

The deceased were identified as Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo, 58, and his younger brother, John Nyityo, 19. The police said both men were allegedly killed by unidentified gunmen.

The police stated further that investigations led to the arrest of Abdullahi Usman, 23, from Awe local government area of Nasarawa State, in connection with the crime, adding that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other suspects.

According to the police, “Supol D Div revived a distress call  along Adaka Axis that on getting there they saw two dead bodies, one Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo ‘m’ 58 years and his younger brother, one lorngee John Nyityo ‘m’ 19yrs …killed by unknown gunmen”

The statement added, “The suspect one Abdullahi Usman, 23, of Awe in Nasarawa State, has been arrested in connection with the crime. Investigation is still going on to get the remaining suspect.”

LEADERSHIP Friday had reported that a senior lecturer in the Department of History at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University m, Makurdi (MOAUM) formerly Benue State University (BSU), Prof. Gabriel Nyityo was shot dead by unknown gunmen.
