Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), has announced a N2.8 million cash prize essay writing competition for students of secondary and tertiary institutions from the state.
The state’s chapter secretary of the LP, Chucks Akamadu stated this while addressing the press in Umuahia, the capital, saying the topic is “A new Abia and need for consolidation.”
Describing the initiative as the first of its kind by the chapter, he said it was designed to encourage the youths to contribute ideas that will support the ongoing transformation in the state.
He also said it seeks to stimulate intellectual engagement, while generating practical ideas and policy recommendations that could contribute to governance and development
Akamadu noted that the LP will through it gather their views and perspectives on the progress made by the Alex Otti-led administration and how to sustain the achievements.
According to the secretary, the prizes for category “A” which is for secondary schools is N500,000, N300,000, and N250,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
While category “B”, which is for tertiary institutions, is N1,000,000, N500,000, and N250,000 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
”We are hereby calling for entries from all Abians at home and in the Diaspora and who fall under either of the categories to send in their entries on or before July 17, 2026,” he said.
Explaining that an entry must not exceed 1,500 words, he said they are to be submitted electronically through the party’s official email address.
Akamadu, who expressed the chapter’ gratitude to the governor for his various youth development initiatives, added that the prize presentation ceremony will be held on August 3, this year.
