The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gboko branch, has urged the federal government to reform the country’s criminal justice system, saying restoring public confidence in the administration of justice is critical to defeating insecurity.

The association made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its 2026 Law Week, signed by the chairman and secretary of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, B.B. Nyam and J.K. Ude.

The NBA expressed deep concern over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, noting that persistent attacks by armed groups, kidnappings and other violent crimes continue to threaten lives, property and national development.

According to the association, meaningful reform of the criminal justice system is necessary to ensure timely prosecution of offenders, improve accountability, strengthen the rule of law and restore public trust in law enforcement institutions.

It stressed that addressing insecurity requires a justice system that is transparent, efficient and accessible, warning that without public confidence in the system, efforts to combat crime would remain ineffective.

The NBA called on the federal government and other stakeholders to implement comprehensive reforms that would enhance the efficiency of the criminal justice system and ensure that perpetrators of crime are swiftly brought to justice.
