Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursaries to eligible students in the state, with the bursary award increased from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary.

The approval, announced on Tuesday, is part of the state government’s efforts to reduce the financial burden on students, improve access to higher education, and boost human capital development.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, who said the intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to investing in the education and future of young people in Akwa Ibom.

According to the statement, the governor’s approval covers the disbursement of ₦1.3 billion for bursary payments to qualified students across the state and a 150 per cent increase in the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000.

“This landmark approval underscores the Governor’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students, expanding access to quality education, and investing in the future of Akwa Ibom’s young people,” the statement said.

It noted that the initiative is designed to support eligible students while encouraging greater access to tertiary education.
