The 5- member Kwara State All Progressives Congress Reconciliation Committee has commenced work in earnest.

The committee led by a veteran politician and administrator , Colonel AbdulWahab Lawal(rtd) swung into action immediately after its inauguration on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

The committee members have since then been meeting with various interest groups and stakeholders across the  state and the proceedings have been largely peaceful.

While the reconciliation committee members have been very civil and polite in their approach to issues, the invitees have also conducted themselves in responsible manners, thus making the engagements seamless.

During their inauguration at the state APC secretariat , the chairman  of the committee,  Lawal appealed to aggrieved members of the party to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

“We appeal to all aggrieved members to open their hearts and minds for a warm and welcoming reception with a view to finding lasting solutions to this family predicament,” Lawal said.

Lawal also urged party members to refrain from inflammatory statements capable of escalating tensions.

“Our appeal to all our members is to sheath the sword and refrain from provocative utterances. This is necessary to douse tension and allow good reasoning prevail. All of us as party members must be ready to make sacrifices necessary to enable APC retain its winning streaks in Kwara State.

“We must not betray the confidence reposed in us by the good people of Kwara State, who love the party and demand for more services to the people. We must unite, be formidable and poised to win the general elections. It is the pathway to shared prosperity for all,” he said.

Lawal said the committee was constituted by the party to reconcile aggrieved leaders and members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Acknowledging that the task before the committee is challenging, he said members remain optimistic that peace and harmony will be restored within the party.

He described the disagreements as a family affair, noting that all parties involved remain loyal to the APC.

“We are all one family. We have watched and listened to all contending positions as they unfold publicly. No party to this misunderstanding has jettisoned the party. All pay allegiance to the party. In this regards, our task is made light. It is thus a family feud and we must all resolve issues with family love,” he said.

Lawal said the committee’s terms of reference include engaging and mediating with aggrieved members and stakeholders across the state to identify the root causes of disputes and facilitate amicable resolutions.

He added that the committee would submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to the state executive committee to promote healing and reintegration within the party.

Lawal disclosed that the committee had commenced its assignment and would hold consultative meetings across the three senatorial districts with party executives, aspirants, candidates, stakeholders and other interest groups.

He said the committee would also engage members of the G15 both collectively and individually while collaborating with individuals and groups already working towards resolving the crisis.

Other members of the committee at the briefing included Dr. Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Engr. Musa Yeketi; and ACG Ahmed Abbass.

Meanwhile, the committee has urged  members of the party to halt inflammatory public exchanges while extending an invitation to the G15 Group to join the  ongoing peace talks.

The committee’s  chairman, Lawal made the appeal during an interview with LEADERSHIP.

He said the committee has  recorded significant progress in its assignment to reconcile aggrieved members following extensive consultations with party stakeholders.

Lawal explained that the committee had met with state House of Assembly aspirants, elders’ groups, local government council executives and other party structures over the past days, describing the engagements as open, frank and encouraging.

He said the meetings reflected a strong commitment among stakeholders to preserve the unity of the ruling party in the state.

He disclosed that they have been briefing the state party’s chairman on developments, expressing satisfaction with the leadership’s support for the reconciliation process.

To create an atmosphere conducive for dialogue, Lawal directed party members to immediately desist from making provocative public statements or engaging in actions capable of worsening divisions within the party.

He also advised that suspensions imposed on members in the name of party discipline should be suspended for the time being, while legitimate party activities continue in good faith and with mutual respect.

He commended party faithful for their patience and cooperation, noting that some position papers and public submissions received had enriched the committee’s mediation efforts.

He particularly praised two governorship aspirants, Engr. Femi Sanni  and Prof. Wale Suleiman, for independently calling on party members to remain calm and embrace reconciliation.

He also acknowledged the support of the APC Unity Group in Abuja for mobilising stakeholders and promoting reconciliation through visits and engagements.

“We extend our olive branch to the G15 group and pray Almighty God softens the heart of everyone,” he said, urging all APC members to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and harmony within the party.
