The High Court of Justice, Kogi State, has distanced itself from reports circulating on social media alleging that it ordered the deregistration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the court’s Chief Information Officer, Saqeeb Saeed, the judiciary said it never entertained any case relating to the registration or deregistration of any political party, including the NDC.

The court explained that contrary to claims contained in a viral social media broadcast, the purported order did not emanate from the Kogi State High Court.

According to the statement, “The High Court of Justice of Kogi State did not handle any matter relating to the registration or deregistration of any political party in the country, and particularly the party in question, nor any other matter concerning the political party.”

The court expressed concern that the misleading content was accompanied by the photograph of the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, alongside that of former Governor Yahaya Bello, describing the action as a deliberate attempt to create a false impression that the alleged decision was delivered by the state’s judiciary.

It noted that although it would ordinarily not respond to such misinformation, the use of the Chief Judge’s image made it necessary to set the record straight in order to protect the integrity of the judiciary.

The judiciary also cautioned content creators and social media users against publishing unverified information capable of misleading the public or undermining confidence in the courts.

It stressed that the integrity and dignity of judges, as well as the institution of the High Court of Justice of Kogi State and other courts under its administrative control, must not be subjected to false and misleading narratives.

The court urged members of the public to disregard the viral social media content, reaffirming its commitment to the fair and impartial administration of justice without fear or favour.
