The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with an alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery at an off-campus students’ hostel in Gadau, during which two students were seriously injured.
The Command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday, saying the arrests followed a swift police response under the implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly to a distress call on July 15, 2026, reporting that about seven armed hoodlums had invaded Rahama House, an off-campus students’ hostel in Gadau.
The suspects allegedly surrounded the building and attacked occupants, who are students of Sa’adu Zungur University, Itas-Gadau Campus.
During the attack, two students sustained serious machete injuries to various parts of their bodies, while the assailants made away with two Android phones belonging to the victims.
The statement said police officers immediately mobilised to the scene, evacuated the injured students to the General Hospital, Azare, for treatment, and launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of all seven suspects.
Police also recovered the stolen phones, while the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and directed that everyone found culpable be brought to justice.
He reassured residents, particularly students living on and off campus, of the Command’s commitment to ensuring their safety and maintaining security across the state.
The Police Command also urged members of the public, especially students residing off campus, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
