Ahead of the 2023 general election, the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD has called on Nigerians especially politicians to support the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure a violence-free, peaceful and credible elections.

The national coordinator and chief executive officer of AUDA-NEPAD, Princess Gloria Akobundu, who made the call in Abuja during a media briefing on the achievement of the agency, said all that is needed in the country is to disallow personal interest when it comes to choosing a political leader.

Akobundu said the agency is working with partners to address climate change in food security, adding that they have developed a policy document that will actualise the vision for poverty reduction across the country.

“Remember, we have no other country. We have no other home. And we have no other brothers and sisters than all of us. Nigeria is our country. We design it the way we want. We put it the way we want. If we want success in our country, we will speak of success to Nigeria.

“If you want Nigeria to be alive, we speak life to Nigeria. Please do not allow personal interest or quest for whatever that will not support the peace and security of this country to deter our unity and progress. Nigeria is one and Nigeria will remain a great country.

“All we need to do is to join hands together to campaign for a violence-free election, which in return will sustain democracy, and will give us the good governance that we all pray for. So, I want to thank the media as a good partner and to also invite you to join us from January for the nationwide violence-free elections in Nigeria,” she said.

Akobundo further noted that to tackle the challenge of food insecurity, Nigeria must harness the yet untapped possibilities in the agricultural sector by strengthening the rural farmers.

“We may not have all the resources as an agency to go out there in full force to implement the programmes that we believe can enhance food sufficiency, and that can enhance poverty reduction in our country.

“Nevertheless, with the partnership programme, which is the strength of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA), a lot has been done, as sister agencies, including the ministries, can attest to that. Look at the humanitarian aspects, Ministry of Agriculture, they all have programmes designed to address this poverty reduction,” she said.
