Jennifer Finch, the bassist, vocalist and songwriter best known for helping power iconic alternative rock band L7, has died at the age of 59 following a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The legendary musician’s death was confirmed by her bandmates, who paid an emotional tribute to the woman they described as a beloved friend, sister and creative force whose influence extended far beyond the stage.

“We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch, whose fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever,” the band said.

Remembering her remarkable legacy, L7 added, “Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured. We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always. Rest in power, our dear friend.” The heartfelt statement was signed, “With Love, L7.”

Finch’s passing came just days after the band announced that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, forcing her to withdraw from L7’s farewell tour. The group revealed that she had undergone multiple surgeries and experienced serious complications, requiring intensive medical treatment, rehabilitation and professional in-home care.
