NPC To Participate In 2022 Carnival Calabar

National Population Commission (NPC) has indicated its intention to participate  in the 2022 Carnival Calabar celebrations that is ongoing in Cross River State.

The commission said taking part in the carnival fiesta would enable it showcase its programme of activities ahead of the forthcoming 2023 population census which is to be conducted by the agency.

The commissioner representing Cross River State at the National Population Commission, retired Navy Captain Charles Ogwa disclosed this at a news conference in Calabar yesterday.

He said the reason why the commission decided to take part in the  2022 Carnival Calabar is to enable the Commission showcase its activities ahead of the  population census which had been scheduled for next year.

Ogwa stated that the commission wants to take advantage of the viewership of the carnival to showcase its activities and reach out to people across the country.

Ogwa said, “Because of the huge viewership of the carnival, the NPC decided to participate in the Carnival Calabar 2022 to showcase the activities of the commission and its preparedness for the 2023 census exercise.

“We will be fully involved in the street party but not as a participating band. The main objective is to strategically reach people across the country.”

In his remarks, chairman of the NPC, Nasim Isa Kwarra stated that the policy of the commission is to get the people involved stressing that their participation in the Calabar Carnival is to use the opportunity to reach out to people.

The chairman who was represented by the chairman of the Public Affairs Committee in the commission Eyitayo Oyetunji, stated that the commission’s participation in the carnival fiesta has  no political undertone but an avenue to create awareness on the forthcoming population census.
